Former special counsel Jack Smith met with then-FBI Director Christopher Wray months after launching his investigation into the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol attack and the 2020 election, according to documents obtained by Fox News Digital.
Fox News Digital reviewed material that FBI Director Kash Patel recently provided to Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley and Sen. Ron Johnson. The documents reveal previously unreported details concerning Smith’s “Arctic Frost” probe.

Grassley, R-Iowa, and Johnson, R-Wis., are evaluating the files as part of their joint oversight effort.
The new information appears in a “significant case notification” drafted by the FBI’s Criminal Investigative Division on May 25, 2023. The document states:
“On 5/24/2023, Special Counsel Jack Smith met with FBI Director Wray.”
This internal notification system is used to alert top bureau leaders and field offices to cases of high public interest. The update identified “Arctic Frost” as a “sensitive investigative matter.”

Grassley told Fox News Digital that Smith did not disclose this meeting when questioned.
He noted that he had previously asked whether Smith had met with Wray, then-Attorney General Merrick Garland, then-Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco, or then-FBI Deputy Director Paul Abbate.
Smith responded to the inquiry but declined to share details about any communications or meetings with those officials.

“Either Smith has a bad memory, or he’s simply not willing to come clean about his actions,” Grassley said, arguing that cooperation would demonstrate a commitment to transparency. He added: “I’m going to continue investigating to ensure the public gets full transparency.”
Smith has pushed to testify publicly, with his attorneys Lanny Breuer and Peter Koski writing that open hearings before both the House and Senate Judiciary Committees would allow him to address what they call “mischaracterizations” of his investigations.
