The man who lunged at Ariana Grande during the Wicked: For Good premiere in Singapore has been sentenced to nine days behind bars.

Johnson Wen, a 26-year-old Australian, pleaded guilty to being a public nuisance and received the nine-day jail sentence, according to a report from The New York Times on Monday, Nov. 17.

The incident occurred on Thursday, Nov. 13, while Grande, 32, walked the premiere carpet for the upcoming Wicked movie. Videos from the scene — including clips shared by Wen on Instagram — show him running toward Grande, grabbing her around the shoulders, and pulling her toward him as she tried to get free.

Security and Grande’s costar Cynthia Erivo reacted quickly, stepping in to remove him. Grande appeared shaken immediately afterward.

A Singapore judge called Wen “attention-seeking” on Nov. 17, stating he acted as if he wouldn’t face consequences. Prosecutors argued his actions showed a “glaring lack of remorse,” despite Wen insisting he would not repeat the behavior.

Wen, who uses the nickname “Pyjama Man” online, has a history of storming stages and approaching celebrities at live events. He has previously run up to performers during concerts by Katy Perry and The Weeknd over the summer. After being arrested following the premiere, he later posted on Instagram Stories that he was “free.”

Grande has not publicly addressed the incident. One day later, she shared photos from the Singapore press tour on Instagram, writing in her caption, “thank you, Singapore. we love you.”

Grande’s Wicked costar Marissa Bode criticized Wen on TikTok, calling him out for causing harm just to chase online attention.

“This is what I mean when I say social media brings out the worst in people,” she said. “Did you get your views? Did you get your likes? You made somebody feel incredibly unsafe. You’re a bad person.”
