The FBI has returned a collection of valuable items stolen from Keanu Reeves’ home during a 2023 jewelry heist, including six luxury watches.

In a press release issued on Tuesday, Nov. 18, the FBI announced that the items had been safely returned to Reeves, 61. The agency also revealed that The Matrix star sent a handwritten note expressing his appreciation, beginning, “It is with profound gratitude and appreciation that I am writing this letter.”

After thanking the multiple agencies that helped track down his belongings, Reeves closed the letter by writing, “Thank you so much for all your effort, dedication, professionalism and cross-border cooperation. My warmest regards, Keanu.”

Chilean authorities confirmed on July 29 that they would hand over Reeves’ stolen property, which included six high-end timepieces. Among them was an engraved Rolex Submariner valued at a minimum of $9,500. The total value of the watches is approximately $125,000, according to a police officer from Chile’s robbery investigation squad who spoke to the Associated Press (AP).

Prosecutors in Chile told reporters that the John Wick actor identified the watches as the same ones taken from his Los Angeles home in December 2023. CNN previously reported that the timepieces resurfaced in eastern Santiago a year later, in December 2024, when authorities arrested a suspect linked to a series of “violent robberies.”

“This case is a perfect example of the excellent international cooperation we enjoy with our Chilean counterparts and our local partners at Los Angeles Police Department,” Akil Davis, the assistant director in charge of the FBI’s Los Angeles Field Office, said in the release.

“While burglary is a local crime in the United States, the FBI works collaboratively with the Los Angeles Police Department and others to share intelligence via our Major Theft Task Force and through other channels,” Davis added. “These crimes affect celebrities and non-public figures alike, and the FBI is committed to assisting our local partners in combatting this scourge affecting the lives of innocent victims.”

According to the statement, investigators believe the robbery was carried out by “South American Theft Groups,” described as criminal organizations from South American countries that travel internationally to commit thefts. The FBI said it is “actively investigating multiple SATG-linked crimes with local partners that occurred in numerous jurisdictions in the United States.”

In August, Reeves met with FBI personnel and a Chilean PDI officer in New York to personally collect the recovered items, according to the release.

“This case underscores how crime today knows no borders, and how vital our international partnerships are in bringing justice to victims here in Los Angeles,” LAPD Chief of Police Jim McDonnell said in the FBI’s statement.

“The recovery of these stolen items—thanks to the outstanding collaboration between the Policía de Investigaciones de Chile, the FBI, and our detectives—sends a strong message that organized theft groups will be pursued wherever they operate,” McDonnell continued. “I am proud of the work our team has done alongside our federal and international partners to hold these criminal networks accountable.”
