A man is recovering in the hospital after he was allegedly stabbed on a Queens subway train following a dispute about the volume of a phone call.

New York City police say officers responded to the Jamaica Center/Parsons and Archer station around 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 22, after receiving a report of an assault aboard an E train. A 54-year-old man told officers he had been stabbed during the incident. His name has not been released.

According to reports from the New York Post and the New York Daily News, the victim asked another rider seated nearby to lower his voice while talking on the phone. The two then argued, and the situation escalated. The suspect allegedly punched the victim several times before stabbing him in the abdomen with a blade, the outlets reported.

Emergency responders took the 54-year-old to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center. Police said he is expected to recover. Investigators believe the suspect fled the train when it pulled into the station.

“There are no arrests at this time, and the investigation remains ongoing,” the NYPD said.

City data indicates transit crime has dipped slightly compared to last year, though subway assaults have risen. The Daily News reported overall transit crime is down about 4%, with notable decreases in robberies and thefts such as bag snatching and pickpocketing.

Saturday’s stabbing follows another recent incident on the E line. The Daily News reported that on Wednesday, Nov. 19, a man slashed two strangers with a knife and slapped a third person on the E train platform at the Kew Gardens–Union Turnpike station.
