Kate Middleton and Prince William looked like they had stepped out of a winter fairytale in a new official portrait taken just before the German state banquet.
On Dec. 3, the Prince and Princess of Wales, both 43, brought full red-carpet glamour in a photo shared on social media shortly before the formal dinner began at Windsor Castle.
“Looking forward to a special banquet tonight in Windsor 🇩🇪🇬🇧,” they captioned the image, adding the flags of Germany and the United Kingdom.
Captured by photographer Alex Bramall at Frogmore House, a royal residence near Windsor Castle, the portrait shows the couple standing close together in front of a softly lit Christmas tree, adding a festive glow to the occasion.
Princess Kate made a dramatic style statement in Queen Victoria’s Oriental Circlet Tiara, wearing the historic piece for the first time — and marking her most striking tiara moment yet. The Princess of Wales has typically opted for more understated jewels, making her debut in the Oriental Circlet especially noteworthy for its size and dazzling design.
She completed the look with a pair of earrings once worn by the late Queen Elizabeth and a shimmering blue caped gown by Jenny Packham, accented with the Royal Family Order and the Royal Victorian Order sash and star.

Prince William matched the grandeur of the evening in a Windsor tail coat with white tie, wearing his Most Noble Order of the Garter sash with the Lesser George and the Great Master of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath neck order, along with additional decorations and medals.

While the stunning pre-banquet portrait would easily double as a festive holiday card, the royal couple may already have a different family image in mind.
William and Kate traditionally release a Christmas photo featuring their three children — Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, 7 — continuing a much-loved family tradition each holiday season.
