Kaitlan Collins has responded after President Donald Trump attacked her online, calling her “stupid and nasty” and even misspelling her name.
On Saturday, Dec. 6, the 33-year-old journalist — CNN’s Chief White House Correspondent and host of The Source with Kaitlan Collins — became the latest woman in the press corps to be singled out by the president.
In a lengthy Truth Social post, Trump, 79, labeled Collins “stupid and nasty” and botched the spelling of her name, apparently in response to a question she asked about his controversial White House ballroom renovation.
Collins answered a few hours later via her Instagram Stories, reposting Trump’s message with a brief, pointed note.
“Technically, my question was about Venezuela,” she wrote, referring to rising tensions between the U.S. and the South American nation — including the Trump administration’s bombing of alleged drug boats off its coast and Trump’s threats of escalation and calls for Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro to step down.
Although Trump’s rant didn’t clearly spell out which moment he was upset about, Collins appeared to be talking about a question she put to him on Friday, Dec. 5.

While Trump helped kick off the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Washington, D.C., where he received a first-ever peace prize from the organization, Collins pressed him on his stance toward Venezuela.
Before Trump accepted the award, she asked, “Mr. President, what would you say to people who say that prize might conflict with your pledge to strike Venezuela?” as seen in footage shared by FOX 5 Washington, D.C.
Trump answered by repeating a familiar claim that he has ended “eight wars and we have a ninth coming … which nobody’s ever done before.”
“But I want to really save lives. I don’t need prizes. I need to save lives. And we’re saving a lot of lives. I’ve saved millions and millions of lives. And that’s really what I want to do,” he continued. “And I also want to run a great country. And the United States right now is the hottest country anywhere in the world. And one year ago, it was dead. We had a dead country. And now we have the hottest country anywhere in the world.”
In his Truth Social post targeting Collins, Trump largely pivoted back to his multi-million-dollar ballroom renovation, first announced in July.
He claimed the project “is actually under budget and ahead of schedule, as my jobs always are,” adding that it is “just much bigger and more beautiful than originally planned.”
The White House demolished the East Wing in October to make space for the new ballroom, a move that has drawn criticism from lawmakers who have raised questions about oversight and historic preservation.
Initially pegged at $200 million, the renovation is now expected to cost around $300 million, according to Trump, who said in October that the tab is being covered entirely by donors, including himself.
Trump’s post about Collins is part of a broader pattern of deriding female journalists. Most recently, on Thanksgiving, he called CBS News White House correspondent Nancy Cordes “a stupid person.”
The day before, he attacked The New York Times’ Katie Rogers as “ugly, both inside and out,” and two weeks earlier, he pointed at Bloomberg’s Catherine Lucey and snapped, “Quiet. Quiet, piggy.”
At that time, Collins publicly defended her colleague on X, saying that Lucey does “a great job.”
