A 19-year-old man says he’s trying to rebuild his life after a breakup, but his ex-girlfriend keeps reaching out expecting him to be there for her emotionally.

In a post on Reddit’s “Am I the A——?” forum, he explained that they broke up “ages ago,” yet she still messages him when something goes wrong in her life and asks to talk.

“I am trying to get myself back to a respectable place and move on,” he wrote, adding that his ex contacted him saying she was upset and wanted to speak with someone familiar.

He said he didn’t hold back in his response.

According to the post, he told her that since they’ve been separated for a long time, he doesn’t have any obligation to make time for her. Instead, he suggested she lean on friends or family rather than coming to him.

The man also said their relationship didn’t end peacefully.

“The breakup was extremely messy,” he wrote, explaining that he felt mistreated during the relationship — and felt relief once it was finally over.

Still, he wondered whether his blunt boundary made him the bad guy, asking other users if he was wrong for refusing to sit and talk with her.

Most replies backed him up, with commenters saying he has every right to move on and protect his peace. One person told him it sounded like ending things was the right call, while another said her current struggles don’t automatically make him responsible for supporting her. A third urged him to block her entirely and leave the situation in the past.
