The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office has released new details about the timeline in the deaths of actor-director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, who were found dead in their Los Angeles home. Their son, Nick Reiner, has been accused in the case.
In a press release issued Tuesday, Dec. 16, Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman said 32-year-old Nick Reiner is accused of killing his parents in “approximately the early morning hours” of Dec. 14.
“In approximately the early morning hours of December 14, Reiner is accused of fatally stabbing Rob Reiner, 78, and Michele Singer Reiner, 70, at their home in the 200 block of South Chadbourne Avenue in Brentwood,” the statement says. “Nick Reiner fled but was arrested hours later that evening in Exposition Park.”
At a news conference Tuesday, Hochman said the office could not yet provide an exact time of death for either Rob or Michele. “I’m sorry we don’t have that kind of specificity yet,” he said, adding that investigators are “waiting on the coroner” to determine the time of death as accurately as possible.

Nick Reiner has been charged with “two counts of murder with the special circumstance allegation of multiple murders,” along with an additional allegation that he personally used “a dangerous and deadly weapon, a knife,” according to the district attorney’s statement.
“Prosecuting cases involving family violence are some of the most challenging and heart-wrenching we face because of the intimate and often brutal nature of the crimes,” Hochman said. “Rob Reiner was one of the greatest filmmakers of his generation. His murder and his wife of more than 35 years, Michele Singer Reiner’s murder, are shocking and tragic. We owe it to their memory to pursue justice and accountability for the lives that were taken.”
Authorities say the couple’s bodies were discovered later that same day. Rob and Michele were found dead in their Brentwood residence on Sunday, Dec. 14, after officers responding to a medical aid call at about 3:30 p.m. located them inside the home.
Prosecutors also said Nick Reiner was not at the house when authorities found the couple. He was later located by police and arrested near the University of Southern California campus at around 9:15 p.m. on Dec. 14.
