A terminally ill mother says she’s deeply moved after receiving an outpouring of Christmas cards and kind messages — turning what may be her final holiday season into something “super special.”

Clare Jones, 47, from Swansea, Wales, shared a post on Facebook on Monday, Dec. 1, after learning her bowel cancer was no longer responding to chemotherapy. Wanting to make the season meaningful, she asked friends for one simple thing: an extra Christmas card in the post.

“I’m a simple person who likes simple things 🤣I love Christmas cards!!! I would love to have lots of cards this year!!! So I’m asking you kindly, when you are doing your cards could you pop an extra one in the post for me? 🙏 🤞😘🎅,” Jones wrote on Facebook alongside her address.

Jones was diagnosed in May 2022, and she was recently told she has around 10 months to live, the BBC reported.

She expected a small boost — maybe 15 extra cards — but the message quickly spread, racking up more than 10,000 shares. Soon, her mailbox was flooded with holiday wishes from far beyond her circle of friends.

Along with hundreds of cards, Jones has also been offered gifts and surprises such as chocolates, theater tickets, and even camper trips, according to the BBC.

“Someone even offered me a night with them,” Jones told the outlet. “I said, ‘That’s very kind of you, but no thank you.’ “

Before her diagnosis, Jones said she initially brushed off symptoms as a “dodgy belly” and delayed going to the doctor. In 2022, she underwent surgery to remove an 18-inch tumor.

A year later, she learned the cancer had progressed to stage four after spreading to her lymph nodes and lungs. She had been receiving chemotherapy to shrink the cancer until it stopped working in November.

Jones has raised her three children — Summer, 16, Sami, 22 and Finley, 20 — on her own for the past decade, per the BBC. Looking ahead to the holidays, she described how painful it was to tell them this Christmas could be her last.

“How do you tell them that? My daughter doesn’t believe it,” she said.

Jones admitted she hesitated before posting publicly, worried she might come across as “cheeky.” Instead, she’s been met with warmth — including funny notes, heartfelt messages, and handmade cards from children around the world that have touched her entire family.

“There has just been so much to read,” she told the BBC, adding, “The love has been amazing… genuine love.”

She says she’s trying to respond to everyone and is keeping all the stamps she receives to donate to a bone cancer charity, which resells them to raise funds.

“I don’t feel ill, I feel okay. But I’m not going to feel this way for much longer,” Jones said, per the BBC. “I have many people around me who care for me. If love could cure cancer, I would be cured.”
