Pregnant Woman in Third Trimester Spends ‘Hours Alone’ at Hospital After Unapologetic Husband Goes on Last-Minute Vacation

A pregnant woman says she begged her husband not to travel while she was deep into a high-risk twin pregnancy — but he went anyway, and she ended up hospitalized overnight by herself.

In a Reddit post, the 37-year-old shared that she and her 39-year-old husband have been together for nearly 18 years. After years of fertility struggles, she’s now pregnant with twins — and said the journey has been exhausting both physically and emotionally.

According to her, her husband decided in mid-November that he “needed” to fly across the country to visit his siblings, despite ongoing tension between her and some of his relatives. She wasn’t excited about the idea, but agreed — on one condition: he needed to go immediately, not later in her pregnancy. When he suggested traveling in mid-December, she told him it would be too late.

Soon after that conversation, she said she began experiencing complications, including significant swelling and gestational hypertension. She was put on medication to manage her blood pressure, but it wasn’t improving. Still, she claims her husband booked a mid-December flight after her diagnosis.

Then, just a day after he left, she said her blood pressure spiked and she had to go to the hospital in the middle of the night. When she arrived, her blood pressure was 180/110. She was diagnosed with preeclampsia and spent hours alone in the labor ward before being prescribed additional medication. Thankfully, she wrote, both babies’ heartbeats were normal, and she was eventually discharged.

The experience left her feeling shaken, depressed, and anxious — especially because she went through it without her husband there. What hurts even more, she said, is that he hasn’t apologized for prioritizing the trip. She added that if he truly wanted to see his siblings, he could have arranged for them to come visit instead.

While many people in her life have told her his decision was inconsiderate, others argued he couldn’t have known she would end up hospitalized while he was away. Unsure how to move past what she calls “resentment,” she asked Reddit users for outside opinions.

Commenters didn’t hold back. One person argued that the risks were obvious: third-trimester complications can happen quickly, her age made the pregnancy higher risk, and gestational hypertension only added to the danger.

Another commenter said a supportive partner would have recognized the moment for what it was — and chosen to stay, even if it meant postponing the visit and relying on video calls instead. They also questioned whether he cut the trip short and returned home immediately, saying he owed her a serious apology and asking whether this was part of a larger pattern of selfish behavior.
