A Texas man was killed at a holiday gathering in San Antonio after a neighbor’s noise complaint allegedly escalated into a deadly confrontation.
The shooting happened before 6 a.m. on Dec. 21 at a home in San Antonio, according to reports from KSAT, WOAI and KENS.
Police told the outlets that Paul Flores, 40, went to a neighbor’s house to complain about the noise. Authorities say he then argued in the front yard with Edward Trejo, 29, and the dispute intensified before Flores allegedly opened fire.
Trejo was shot multiple times — including in the neck — and was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, KSAT reported.
Flores was arrested and charged with murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, according to the outlets, citing jail records. It wasn’t immediately clear whether he has entered a plea or hired an attorney.
WOAI reported the gathering was a Christmas party.
In the days after Trejo’s death, KSAT and KENS reported that hundreds of family members and friends came together to remember him during a balloon release.
“He had a big heart, you know,” Trejo’s friend Vanessa Fernandez told KSAT. “He loved everybody.”
Trejo’s relatives also shared memories of him, including his twin brother, Christian Trejo.
“He did a lot for us,” Christian told KSAT. “He always had our back, he always had anybody’s back.”
A GoFundMe created to support Trejo’s family has raised nearly $30,000 so far.
“Our hearts are shattered as we mourn the sudden and tragic loss of our beloved Edward,” the organizer wrote. “Edward’s laughter, kindness, and love touched everyone who knew him, and his absence leaves a hole in our hearts that can never be filled.”
