A Canadian tourist was stabbed in the leg while visiting New York City’s Bryant Park, and police are continuing to search for a suspect.
According to reports from WABC, WNBC and amNewYork, the 44-year-old man was in the midtown Manhattan park at around 5:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 30, when he bent down to tie his shoe.
The man told authorities he suddenly felt pain in his leg but did not initially realize he had been stabbed. He later walked into a nearby store to examine the injury and noticed blood running down his leg, amNewYork reported.
Police said the victim was transported to a hospital, where he was listed in stable condition, NBC reported. He is expected to recover.
According to NBC, the man told police he had been visiting the park’s annual Winter Village, a popular tourist attraction, and was leaving the area when the stabbing occurred.
The tourist said he did not see an attacker, according to amNewYork, which added that investigators believe the incident may have been a random attack.
No arrests have been made in connection with the stabbing. ABC reported that it remains unclear whether police have a description of the suspect.
