Two pedestrians were struck by an SUV in Queens early New Year’s Day, leaving one man dead and another in critical condition, according to the New York Police Department.
The victims, both men, were crossing 102nd Street near 37th Avenue shortly after 4 a.m. Thursday when they were hit by a white SUV traveling southbound on 102nd Street, police said.
One of the men was thrown into a parked, unattended Honda Pilot and became pinned beneath the SUV. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The second victim, a 24-year-old man, was transported to Elmhurst Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
Authorities said the driver fled the scene following the crash.
The victims’ names have not been released, and the identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of family members. No arrests had been made as of Thursday afternoon, and the investigation remains ongoing.
