Former President Donald Trump launched a blistering attack on Colorado Governor Jared Polis and a Republican district attorney on Wednesday, condemning both in harsh terms and telling them to “rot in hell.”

In a post shared on Truth Social, Trump defended Tina Peters, a former Mesa County clerk who is currently serving a nine-year prison sentence related to election interference charges stemming from the 2020 election.

“God Bless Tina Peters, who is now, for two years out of nine, sitting in a Colorado Maximum Security Prison, at the age of 73, and sick, for the ‘crime’ of trying to stop the massive voter fraud that goes on in her State,” Trump wrote. He added that Colorado is a place “where people are leaving in record numbers.”

Trump went on to denounce Polis and the district attorney involved in the case, calling the governor a “scumbag” and labeling the prosecutor a “disgusting ‘Republican’ (RINO!).” He claimed Peters was unfairly punished while Democrats faced no consequences for what he described as a “phony Mail In Ballot System” that makes it “impossible for a Republican to win an otherwise very winnable State.” Trump concluded the post by saying, “I wish them only the worst. May they rot in Hell. FREE TINA PETTERS!”

Peters, who previously served as the clerk of Mesa County, was convicted on seven state-level charges connected to her actions following the 2020 election. Prosecutors said she used her official position to grant an associate of MyPillow CEO and Minnesota gubernatorial candidate Mike Lindell access to county election software. The charges against her include three counts of attempting to influence a public servant and one count of criminal impersonation.

Earlier this month, Trump claimed in another Truth Social post that he had pardoned Peters. In that statement, he accused Democrats of ignoring violent crime while aggressively prosecuting individuals who questioned election integrity. Trump described Peters as “a Patriot who simply wanted to make sure that our Elections were Fair and Honest” and said he was granting her a “full Pardon” for her efforts to expose what he called voter fraud in the 2020 presidential election.

However, Peters remains incarcerated because presidential pardons do not apply to state-level convictions.
