A woman has sparked debate after criticizing what she sees as a strange and unnecessary habit: women pointing out other attractive women to their significant others.

In a post shared on the U.K.-based community forum Mumsnet, she said she frequently notices women nudging their partners and commenting things like, “She’s stunning,” or “Look at her body.” To her, the behavior feels uncomfortable and misplaced.

She described it as “performative” and “weird,” adding that the dynamic doesn’t seem equal. “What really gets me is that you’re not doing the same thing with men,” she wrote. “You’re not pointing out hot guys to your man and comparing them to him. So what’s actually going on here?”

Her post drew mixed reactions from other users. Some agreed, suggesting that calling attention to other women’s looks in front of a partner could stem from insecurity or self-esteem issues.

Others strongly disagreed, arguing that appreciating beauty doesn’t have to carry any hidden meaning. Several users said noticing and commenting on someone attractive is no different from admiring a beautiful house, scenery, or anything else that stands out visually.

“It could just be noticing something aesthetically pleasing,” one user explained, adding that if their partner happens to be there, they’ll say whatever crosses their mind.

Another commenter echoed that sentiment, admitting she tends to share nearly every thought with her husband and doesn’t see it as a reflection of dissatisfaction or comparison.

The discussion ultimately highlighted how differently people interpret casual observations — with some viewing them as harmless honesty, and others seeing them as awkward or unnecessary in a relationship.
