Gabrielle knew she would face backlash online when she decided to publicly share her story of marrying a man who had cheated on her. Still, the 27-year-old chose to speak out, hoping her experience might help others who are navigating similar pain.
In December, Gabrielle went viral on TikTok after posting a series of videos explaining why she stayed in her relationship after her now-husband, Austin, 32, cheated on her less than four months before their wedding. While acknowledging how serious the betrayal was, she believes that faith, forgiveness, and long-term effort made healing possible.
For the past two years, Gabrielle has consistently shared Christian-focused content online, often drawing from her own experiences. She says her goal has always been to encourage others who feel ashamed or alone, and to show that difficult situations can still be redeemed. By the time she shared this part of her life publicly, she says she felt healed and at peace, believing it was the right moment to speak up.
In a TikTok posted on Dec. 29 — nearly five years after the infidelity — Gabrielle explained that she was tired of carrying shame and wanted to help others who might be in the middle of their own healing journeys. She described the post as her way of sharing how her relationship was restored.
According to Gabrielle, she first sensed that something was wrong in April 2021. The couple had been in a long-distance relationship for nine months and engaged for 14 months when she noticed Austin becoming distant. By late May, feeling confused and unsettled, she confronted him directly and asked if there was someone else. Austin admitted that a friendship with a coworker had crossed boundaries.
Soon after, Gabrielle contacted the other woman, who shared details of what had happened during a three-hour phone call. The woman said they were not intimate but had kissed and spent time together, and she provided messages to support her account.
Learning the truth just three months before her wedding was devastating. Gabrielle later said the experience was deeply painful and traumatic, forcing her to make an incredibly difficult decision about her future.
Although the relationship with the other woman had already ended by the time Gabrielle found out, the revelation left her in shock. A few days later, she and Austin met in person and talked at length. Gabrielle seriously considered calling off the wedding, spending time in prayer and reflection. Ultimately, she felt Austin was genuinely remorseful and believed healing was possible.

The couple went on to marry on Sept. 4, 2021, in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Gabrielle credits individual betrayal-trauma counseling, which she began in spring 2022, as a turning point in her recovery. She attended weekly sessions for several months and continued therapy for a total of eight months. She says counseling helped her understand how trauma works and how healing unfolds over time. Austin joined some sessions as well, which helped him better grasp the depth of the hurt his actions caused.
Beyond therapy, Gabrielle points to consistent communication, transparency with phones, and shared spiritual growth as key factors in rebuilding trust. Over time, the couple became more involved in their faith, attending Bible studies, church, and accountability groups. Austin also set personal safeguards and worked intentionally on changing his behavior.
According to Gabrielle, what ultimately helped her move forward was seeing daily, sustained effort from her husband — proof that he was committed to becoming a different person than he had been during that painful period.

Not everyone supported her message. Gabrielle’s viral video drew heavy criticism, with many commenters questioning whether Austin would have admitted the truth without being confronted. Others insisted she should have walked away.
In response, Gabrielle later posted another video from Austin’s perspective. In it, he openly acknowledged that he had betrayed her trust, offered no excuses, and said he was actively working to be a better partner. He expressed gratitude that they were still choosing to move forward together. Comments on that video were disabled.
Despite the backlash, Gabrielle says she understands where critics are coming from and isn’t trying to justify infidelity. Instead, she hopes for more compassion in online conversations and wants people to know that mistakes don’t define a person forever. Her message, she says, is ultimately about grace, accountability, and the possibility of redemption.
