Months before Spencer and Monique Tepe were found dead inside their Columbus, Ohio, home, a woman called 911 from the same address.

At about 2:45 a.m. local time on April 15, 2025, an unnamed woman dialed 911 from the couple’s residence to report what a dispatcher described as a “domestic dispute,” according to audio of the call obtained by the outlet. The caller initially hung up, but spoke with a dispatcher after 911 called back.

During the conversation, the woman was crying and repeatedly apologized, insisting several times that she was “OK.”

When the dispatcher asked why she was crying, the woman said she was “just emotional” and didn’t need police or paramedic assistance. She explained she had called “because me and my man got into it, but I’m OK, I promise.”

The woman told the dispatcher that there had been an argument but said nothing physical happened. The dispatcher said officers who were responding to the address would be canceled and the call was coded as a “domestic dispute” with “assistance no longer needed.”

On Dec. 30, 2025, Spencer and Monique were discovered dead at the same home with gunshot wounds after police responded to calls requesting welfare checks on the couple.

Police previously said there were no signs of forced entry and no firearms were found at the scene. Spencer was shot multiple times, while Monique suffered at least one gunshot wound to the chest.

The Columbus Division of Police is investigating the case as a double homicide — not a murder-suicide — WSYX and CNN reported.

The apparent causes of death for Spencer and Monique were the gunshot wounds, the Office of Franklin County Coroner Nathaniel R. Overmire previously told the outlet. Their official causes of death remain pending further assessments, including toxicology reports.

The update follows the Columbus Division of Police releasing footage of a person of interest in the case. The individual was seen on camera in an alley near the Tepe residence during the morning hours when investigators believe the couple was killed.

The person of interest appeared to be wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt and lighter-colored pants. Their hands were in their pockets, and their face was not visible on the footage.
