The groom behind the viral 2023 Paris wedding often dubbed the “wedding of the century” has pleaded guilty in connection with a North Texas shooting involving police.
Jacob LaGrone, 31, pleaded guilty to three counts of aggravated assault of a public servant after authorities said he fired a gun at three North Texas police officers in March 2023. According to Jan. 7 court documents obtained by Dallas News, WFAA and the Star-Telegram, LaGrone was granted deferred adjudication and placed on probation for seven years.
Tarrant County District Attorney Phil Sorrells said in a statement that “justice was achieved” with LaGrone’s guilty pleas.
“Our office carefully evaluated the facts, the evidence, and the likely trial outcomes before reaching this resolution,” Sorrells said. “We support the officers involved and remain grateful that none were physically injured.”
“Mr. Lagrone will be supervised for seven years under strict conditions, and our office will pursue adjudication if any violations occur,” he added, without specifying what the “strict conditions” would entail.

Under deferred adjudication, a defendant may be eligible to have a charge expunged if probation is completed without violations, according to local news outlets.
If LaGrone had been convicted at trial, he could have faced life in prison because aggravated assault of a public servant is a first-degree felony in Texas. Local outlets reported he was previously offered a plea deal of 25 years, which he declined.
Shooting allegations came months before the viral Paris wedding
The case stems from an incident that took place roughly eight months before LaGrone’s lavish Paris nuptials to car dealership heiress Madelaine Brockway. Their five-day celebration drew massive attention online and was widely reported to have cost about $59 million, featuring a performance by Maroon 5, a sleepover at the Palace of Versailles, and a rehearsal dinner at the Paris Opera House.
In LaGrone’s indictment, obtained by The Washington Post, police alleged they responded to multiple calls reporting that a gun had been discharged inside a private home in March 2023. When officers arrived, they said they were “fired upon” by LaGrone.

The indictment states that LaGrone “did intentionally and knowingly threaten imminent bodily injury” to the officers and “did use or exhibit a deadly weapon during the commission of the assault, namely, a firearm.”
He was arrested and released on a $20,000 bond. He later made his first court appearance on Nov. 30, 2023 — about two weeks after the Paris wedding — for a motion hearing related to the charges.
Brockway has kept a low profile online
Since the wedding and the case, Brockway has maintained a relatively low profile on social media, only returning more regularly with travel photos in summer 2024.
On Nov. 18, she marked the couple’s two-year anniversary on Instagram with newer photos in front of the Eiffel Tower alongside older wedding images, captioned, “2 years yo.”
In January 2025, Brockway announced on Instagram that she and LaGrone were expecting their first child. In June 2025, she shared that their baby, Rhône Day, was born.
