President Donald Trump offered a brief reaction after watching portions of first lady Melania Trump’s upcoming documentary.
Speaking with reporters aboard Air Force One on Sunday, Jan. 11, Trump said he hasn’t watched the full film yet, but what he has seen left an impression.
“I’ve seen pieces of it, it’s incredible,” he said. “I think it’s going to do very– you know, she did a book and the book was a big number one bestseller, and this is a movie, and it seems to be captivating a lot of people’s attention.”
The documentary, titled Melania, is scheduled for theatrical release on Jan. 30 and will premiere the night before at the newly retitled Kennedy Center, according to interim Kennedy Center President Ric Grenell.
Amazon MGM Studios reportedly purchased the rights to the film for $40 million. Promotional material says the documentary will provide “unprecedented access to the 20 days leading up to the 2025 presidential inauguration — through the eyes of the first lady-elect herself,” and will include “exclusive footage of critical meetings, private conversations, and never-before-seen environments.”
A trailer for the film shows Melania Trump preparing for meetings, traveling aboard Air Force One, and appearing alongside her son, Barron, including moments where the two smile during a rally.
The project also marks director Brett Ratner’s return to Hollywood after multiple women accused him of sexual misconduct during the #MeToo movement, USA Today reported. No criminal charges were filed.
Ratner, known for directing the Rush Hour film series, largely avoided the spotlight after parting ways with Warner Bros. in November 2017 following the accusations, the outlet reported.
In December, Ratner resurfaced in headlines after appearing in a batch of Epstein-related photos released by the Department of Justice. In one image, Ratner is pictured hugging late French model agent and Epstein associate Jean-Luc Brunel, who is shirtless.
