Nikki Glaser used CBS’ own stage to take aim at the network’s recent editorial controversy.
In her sharp-edged opening monologue at Sunday night’s Golden Globe Awards, Glaser criticized CBS for sidelining a planned “60 Minutes” investigation into alleged abuse at a notorious Salvadorian prison. The report focused on claims involving hundreds of Venezuelan men who were unlawfully deported there last year.
After a quick joke about the Trump Justice Department “earning” an editing award for heavily redacted Jeffrey Epstein-related documents released last month, Glaser pivoted to CBS itself.
“The award for most editing goes to CBS News,” she said with a smirk. “Yes. CBS News: America’s newest place to ‘See B.S. News.’”
CBS’ recently appointed head of news, Bari Weiss, has faced backlash for directing the network to hold the “60 Minutes” episode. Weiss argued the segment wasn’t ready to air without including on-the-record responses from Trump administration officials.
But the journalist behind the report, Sharyn Alfonsi, pushed back publicly, accusing Weiss of freezing the story for political reasons and noting that White House officials declined requests to address the allegations.
“If the administration’s refusal to participate becomes a valid reason to spike a story, we have effectively handed them a ‘kill switch’ for any reporting they find inconvenient.”
