Russia’s Foreign Ministry condemned what it described as outside interference in Iran’s domestic affairs and said U.S. threats of potential new military strikes were “categorically unacceptable,” according to a ministry statement.
Moscow alleged that foreign actors are trying to use unrest in Iran as a justification for escalating pressure and possibly launching further military action. The ministry warned that any strikes could have “disastrous consequences” for stability in the Middle East and for global security.
In the same statement, the Foreign Ministry criticized what it called “brazen attempts to blackmail Iran’s foreign partners by raising trade tariffs.” It also pointed to Iran’s internal social and economic strains as key drivers of unrest, including protest movements it said have been fueled in part by Western sanctions.
In remarks echoed by the ministry’s spokeswoman, Russia said it “strongly condemns the destructive foreign interference in Iran’s internal political affairs,” while claiming Iranian authorities are attempting to engage with the public to address economic and social challenges.
The ministry also said it is coordinating with Russia’s diplomatic missions in Iran, noting that they are operating normally and remain in contact with Russian citizens in the country. It urged Russians in Iran to avoid crowded places as tensions persist.
The statement comes amid heightened international attention on Iran, where protests and calls for political change have intensified diplomatic pressure and competing narratives among major powers. U.S. officials have periodically suggested possible military action or support in response to the crisis, drawing sharp reactions from Tehran’s allies, including Moscow.
Russia framed its response as part of broader disputes over U.S. foreign policy, arguing that Washington’s posture toward Iran reflects a wider pattern of actions it claims undermine international norms.
As unrest and diplomatic tensions continue, Russia’s message signals a firm effort to deter further U.S. escalation while reiterating its support for Iran’s sovereignty and warning of wider regional and global repercussions if outside intervention expands.
