A man accused of killing his ex-girlfriend at her workplace allegedly shot her at close range inside a Bradenton office suite — and injured a coworker nearby in the same burst of gunfire, authorities said.

Keith Roberts Jr., 29, is charged with first-degree murder with a firearm and attempted first-degree murder with a firearm following the Thursday afternoon shooting, according to the Bradenton Police Department.

Police said the shooting happened around 12:48 p.m. after Roberts entered a suite of offices in the 5200 block of 4th Avenue Circle East in Bradenton, Florida, where his ex-girlfriend, Myshaela Burnham, 29, was working. Burnham was fatally shot, police said.

A female employee who witnessed the shooting was also struck by gunfire, authorities said. She remains hospitalized, and her name has not been released.

Bradenton Police Chief Jason Cramer told WFLA that investigators believe Roberts walked into the office suite, went straight to where Burnham was seated, and fired at point-blank range. Cramer said the coworker was hit because she was at an adjoining desk.

Police said multiple 911 callers reported seeing a vehicle leave the scene shortly after the shooting. Investigators identified the car and determined it was heading toward the DeSoto Bridge, according to the department. Roberts was taken into custody in Palmetto within about 25 minutes, police said.

Authorities said Roberts later agreed to an interview with detectives from the Manatee Homicide Investigation Unit and was arrested shortly before 6 p.m. Thursday.

Roberts is being held at the Manatee County Jail without bond, according to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office website. The investigation remains ongoing.
