Brooklyn Beckham and Nicola Peltz Beckham’s wedding DJ is speaking out about the much-discussed moment when Brooklyn danced with his mother, Victoria Beckham, during the couple’s April 2022 wedding in Palm Beach, Fla.—calling the situation “really awkward.”
DJ Fat Tony appeared on ITV’s This Morning on Friday, Jan. 23, and said he has worked multiple Beckham events in the past, before being hired for Brooklyn and Nicola’s wedding weekend.
Tony, 60, said he decided to share what he witnessed after being flooded with questions following Brooklyn’s recent Instagram posts, in which he alleged his mother “hijacked” his first dance with Nicola, 31, and danced “very inappropriately” with him.
“It was a three-day wedding,” Tony recalled. “I did the welcome party, then I did the wedding and a brunch on the Sunday, which was the most awkward part of it all because everything that had gone on on the actual wedding night was discussed among the guests the next morning.”
Tony said singer Marc Anthony called Victoria, 51, onto the dance floor while a Latin song was playing. According to Tony, the issue wasn’t what happened on the dance floor so much as when it happened.

“There was no slut dropping, there was no black PVC catsuits, there was no Spice Girl action,” he said. “…The word inappropriate, why I said it was inappropriate as well … it was the timing.”
He described a moment where Anthony was performing and called Brooklyn up to the stage—something guests believed would lead to Brooklyn and Nicola’s planned first dance.
“Basically, Marc Anthony was performing on stage, he then called Brooklyn on to stage. Brooklyn went onto the stage and everyone was expecting it to be Nicola to go up and do the first dance,” Tony said. “Marc Anthony asked ‘the most beautifulest woman in the room’ to come to the stage and he says, ‘Victoria, come to the stage.’ ”
Tony claimed Brooklyn was “devastated” when Victoria joined him in front of the guests because he thought he was about to share his first dance with his new wife. He also alleged Nicola left the room “crying her eyes out.”
“Brooklyn’s stuck there on stage and then they do this dance and Marc Anthony’s like going, ‘Put your hands on your mother’s hips,’ and it’s Latin, it was a Latin thing,” Tony said. “The whole situation was really awkward for everyone in the room.”
A representative for Anthony did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Tony added that the Beckhams are a “very dancey, close-knit family” who “love to dance,” and suggested perceptions may differ depending on personal boundaries.
“What we deem to be inappropriate is not what Brooklyn feels,” he said.
In his Instagram posts, Brooklyn said hundreds of guests watched the moment unfold, and he described feeling deeply uncomfortable.
“My mum hijacked my first dance with my wife, which had been planned weeks in advance to a romantic love song,” he wrote. “In front of our 500 wedding guests, Marc Anthony called me to the stage, where the scheduled was planned to be my romantic dance with my wife but instead my mum was waiting to dance with me instead. She danced very inappropriately on me in front of everyone. I’ve never felt more uncomfortable or humiliated in my entire life.”
He said the experience was part of why he and Nicola chose to renew their vows in August 2025.
“We wanted to renew our vows so we could create new memories of our wedding day that bring us joy and happiness, not anxiety and embarrassment,” he added.
Brooklyn also wrote that he does not want to “reconcile” with his family and accused Victoria and David Beckham of trying “endlessly to ruin” his relationship with Nicola.

Speaking on the show, Tony emphasized that, regardless of anyone else’s interpretation, the emotional impact on Brooklyn is what matters.
“This is all about how Brooklyn feels,” he said. “If he feels that it was inappropriate and awkward, it was inappropriate and awkward.”
Tony also suggested Brooklyn’s decision to address the situation publicly came after years of pressure, including criticism that he should be grateful for his family name. When asked why Brooklyn didn’t handle it privately, Tony said, “He’s done all that. It got to the point for him where he couldn’t take this anymore and wanted to step back from it, and that was his way of doing closure.”
Tony added that he believes the family will eventually speak again, but said the public scrutiny has intensified everything.
“We live in a world where everyone is judge, jury, and executioner,” he said.
He also claimed the wedding dance became a central topic among guests and overshadowed the weekend—particularly the next day’s brunch.
“Everyone was talking about it, and how sad that part of it was,” he said, adding, “But Victoria was thrown into that situation, and I think too much has been read into it … in the sense of too many stories being added to it. The dance is a very small part of the bigger problem.”
Tony’s TV appearance came a day after he joked about the controversy on Instagram, posting a clip of a character from the BBC series Motherland dancing wildly to Lil’ Kleine and Ronnie Flex’s “Drank & Drugs.” Text over the video read, “POV: Victoria Beckham during Brooklyn’s first dance,” and Tony captioned it, “’Actual video footage it’s true I was there!”

After Brooklyn’s posts, a source familiar with the situation claimed Brooklyn and Nicola do not want footage of the wedding dance circulating publicly. The source said the couple are the only ones with access to the video and described it as an extremely embarrassing moment for them.
That source also alleged Marc Anthony performed at the wedding as a gift and repeated the claim that he called Brooklyn to the stage and then invited Victoria up as “the most beautiful woman in the room.”

A representative for Anthony did not respond to requests for comment regarding those claims.
A separate source with knowledge of the situation said earlier this month that Victoria and David “have repeatedly asked Brooklyn and Nicola to meet and talk in order to move forward,” adding that David “loves his kids” and that “they are his everything.”
Representatives for Brooklyn, Nicola, Victoria and David have not responded to previous requests for comment.
