The family of the late Renee Good is speaking out after the death of Alex Pretti, a 37-year-old ICU nurse who was fatally shot by federal officers in Minneapolis.

Pretti was killed on the morning of Saturday, Jan. 24 — the same city where Good was fatally shot by an ICE agent on Jan. 7.

In a statement released through their attorneys, Good’s family called the events “terrifying, deeply disturbing, and heartbreaking,” saying another U.S. citizen has died while “being present to observe and peacefully advocate for their beliefs.”

The family urged Americans to “trust their own eyes” as they interpret video of the incident, and they called for “an absolute end to ICE activity in Minneapolis,” arguing the agency has “gone too far and strayed far beyond its stated mission of removing criminal non-citizens from the country.” They added: “It is time for a hard reset. ICE agents can leave Minneapolis. The residents of Minnesota cannot.”

“We call for a complete and immediate end to the ICE invasion of this beautiful American city,” the family added. Good was a mother of three.

On Jan. 24, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said Pretti “approached U.S. Border Patrol officers with a 9 mm semi-automatic handgun” and “violently resisted” as they attempted to disarm him. DHS said an agent then “fired defensive shots” at Pretti, according to an official statement posted on X.

Footage verified by The New York Times, however, appears to contradict that account. In the video, Pretti is seen standing among a group of protesters with both hands visible, holding his phone in one hand as an agent sprays pepper spray at the group. Several agents then approach Pretti, who does not appear to be holding or pulling a weapon as he is pinned on the sidewalk.

In a statement shared by the Minnesota Democratic–Farmer–Labor Party, Pretti’s family accused President Donald Trump’s administration of spreading what they described as “sickening lies” about his death.

“We are heartbroken but also very angry … The sickening lies told about our son by the administration are reprehensible and disgusting,” said Pretti’s parents, Michael and Susan.

“Alex is clearly not holding a gun when attacked by Trump’s murdering and cowardly ICE thugs,” they added.

Pretti’s death comes less than three weeks after Good’s death. Federal officials have claimed Good tried to weaponize her vehicle, but that account has been fiercely disputed by local officials and by Good’s family.

Good’s death has been officially ruled a homicide, according to the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office.
