The 16-year-old who died in a sledding accident in Frisco, Texas, has been identified as Elizabeth Angle.
Angle was a sophomore at Wakeland High School (WHS) and played on the school’s soccer team, according to FOX affiliate KDFW. The crash happened shortly before 2:30 p.m. local time on Sunday, Jan. 25, the Frisco Police Department (FPD) said in a news release.
Police said two 16-year-old girls were riding on a sled being pulled by a Jeep Wrangler when the sled hit a curb and slammed into a tree. One of the girls later died at the hospital. The other remains in critical condition.
Angle’s parents told CBS affiliate WTVT that she was kind and outgoing, and that she leaves behind two sisters, ages 12 and 18.
Luis Ramos, a coach with the FC Dallas club team, remembered Angle in a Facebook post, calling her a steady presence and a “calm voice” who “knew what it meant to stand her ground.”
“God called her home not in defeat, but in victory. Still guarding. Still strong. Now standing watch from higher ground,” Ramos wrote, in part. “Elizabeth—our defender. Our teammate. Forever part of us.”

Wakeland High’s soccer team also posted a tribute on social media, asking the community to keep Angle’s family, friends, teammates, coaches, teachers, and classmates in their thoughts and prayers.
WHS principal Donna Edge also shared condolences in a letter to Angle’s parents, writing that their daughter “was well-liked by peers and teachers,” and adding, “Our entire campus community is impacted by this tragedy,” according to KDFW.
Angle’s parents said the second girl on the sled—identified as Grace—remains on life support, according to WTVT.
In a statement shared on Facebook, WHS said additional counselors would be available on campus Wednesday, Jan. 28, for students and staff who need support while processing the loss.
An investigation into the crash remains ongoing. Ryan Thomas, a spokesperson for the FPD, told The Dallas Morning News that the Denton County District Attorney’s Office will determine whether criminal charges will be pursued.
