A 28-year-old woman died after her mother allegedly shot her during an argument over alcohol, according to an arrest affidavit from the Dallas Police Department.
Police said officers responded to a reported shooting in the 800 block of Green Cove Lane on Feb. 2 at about 3:55 p.m., according to a department press release.
Investigators wrote that the victim, Tabatha Jones, and her 49-year-old mother, Shanika Battle, were the only two people inside the home when officers arrived, according to the arrest affidavit.
Jones, who made the 911 call, was found in a bedroom suffering from a gunshot wound. She told officers her mother shot her in the side, the affidavit states. Jones was taken to a hospital, where she died nearly an hour later, police said.

After obtaining a search warrant, officers allegedly found a .380-caliber pistol in the living room next to Battle’s purse. A spent casing matching that caliber was located near Jones’ room, according to the affidavit.
During an interview with investigators, Battle allegedly said Jones was “upset” that she had taken alcohol that belonged to her. Battle told officers Jones began going into “rooms that were not hers,” and the two then got into a verbal argument, according to the affidavit.
Battle allegedly said the dispute did not turn physical. She told investigators the gun was hers and that she pulled it from her purse to “scare” Jones, the affidavit states. Battle denied shooting her daughter, according to the document.
Battle was arrested at the scene and charged with murder, according to the affidavit and online jail records. As of Tuesday evening, no bail had been set.
