U.S. Rep. Joaquin Castro is urging a formal investigation into an alleged Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raid at a San Antonio residence after video of the encounter spread rapidly online.
Castro said Friday the footage raises major questions about how immigration enforcement is being carried out under the Trump administration. He claimed the administration has “purposely freed up more ICE agents to go and break into people’s homes with no warrant, without cause.”
The viral clip shows a heated standoff between armed agents and a family inside the home, including women and children. Online outrage has grown as viewers questioned whether the agents had legal authority to enter and search the residence.
According to the video, what began as a knock at the door quickly escalated when two agents entered the home. Voices can be heard demanding paperwork, repeatedly asking, “Where the f— is your warrant?” The agents appear to continue moving through the house despite repeated requests to produce one. At one point, a family member alleges agents broke a window.
The confrontation appears to cool down as the agents prepare to leave, but tensions spike again when a man tries to shut the door on one of the agents. The agents ultimately depart without making any arrests, leaving open questions about why they were there and whether a warrant existed.
Criminal defense attorney Jonathan Chavez said these situations can be legally complicated — especially when federal authorities are involved. “At the federal level, especially, you’re dealing with stuff like no knock warrants and a lot of things like that…if you legitimately thought that he was somebody was coming in illegally. So they do have that right, like I say, it’ll take them a long time to play out,” Chavez said.
Castro later addressed the incident on social media, asserting that everyone inside the home was a U.S. citizen and that the agents did not have a warrant. He also blamed Texas Gov. Greg Abbott for supporting the enforcement posture, saying, “He’s supporting it. He agrees with it, and he’s enabling it…He’s purposely freeing up more ICE agents to go and break into people’s homes with no warrant, without cause.”
Attempts have been made to contact the woman who posted the video and to obtain a statement from ICE. For now, Castro’s claims — including the citizenship status of those inside the home — have not been independently confirmed.
