A 2-year-old boy was killed in the driveway of his family’s home in Marion County, Florida, on Tuesday, Feb. 10.

Olyver “Ollie” Couch was playing in the driveway when he was struck by a car driven by a family friend who was leaving the home. Olyver’s mother, Paula Couch, said the driver did not realize Olyver was behind the vehicle at the time.

Paula urged others to take extra precautions before moving a car, especially in areas where children may be playing. She said drivers should look carefully and, when possible, get out and check around the vehicle, including behind it and near the wheels, to make sure no one is in harm’s way.

Olyver’s father, Michael, echoed that message, emphasizing the importance of walking behind a vehicle and checking thoroughly before backing up.

A friend of the family, Alecia Thomas, described Paula as a devoted mother and said she could not imagine the pain the family is experiencing.

Paula said Olyver “will forever be two.” He was the youngest of four brothers, who are 4, 7 and 12 years old, according to a GoFundMe page created to help the family cover unexpected funeral expenses.
