Federal investigators have recovered a new series of “thumbnail” images from the Arizona estate of Nancy Guthrie, the missing 84-year-old mother of Today show co-anchor Savannah Guthrie, as the search for the abducted grandmother enters its seventh week with no signs of life.
The FBI’s recent forensic breakthrough—recovering data from motion-activated cameras pointed at Guthrie’s backyard, side yard, and swimming pool—offers a chilling look at activity on the property in the weeks leading up to the February 1 disappearance. However, sources close to the investigation tell ABC News that the cameras failed to capture any footage from the night of the abduction, a lapse one official described as “odd.”
Investigation Refocuses on Premeditation
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos issued a stark warning this week, stating that investigators now believe Nancy Guthrie was “targeted.” While authorities are withholding a specific motive to protect the integrity of the case, Nanos cautioned that the unidentified suspect remains at large and could strike again.
“It’d be silly to tell people, ‘Don’t worry about it. You’re not his target.’ You could be,” Nanos said in an interview with NBC News. “Keep your wits about you.”
The FBI is specifically seeking neighborhood surveillance footage from two key dates: January 11 and January 24, 2026. Investigators believe these dates may reveal the suspect conducting “pre-operational surveillance” or “casing” the Guthrie residence before the February 1 strike.

The Timeline: A Silent Abduction
The disappearance of the 84-year-old has been characterized by a clinical, high-tech erasure of evidence. Forensic data reveals a precise sequence of events on the morning of Sunday, Feb. 1:
- 1:47 a.m.: The front doorbell camera was manually disconnected.
- 2:12 a.m.: Motion sensors detected a dark figure approaching the home, but no video was saved due to the lack of an active cloud subscription.
- 2:28 a.m.: Guthrie’s medical pacemaker was abruptly disconnected from its synchronized smartphone app—marking the last known biological signal from the victim.
A trail of blood found on the front porch was later confirmed through DNA testing to belong to Nancy Guthrie. Despite the recovery of a discarded glove two miles away, forensic genetic genealogy has yet to produce a match in the FBI’s Combined DNA Index System (CODIS).

A Family in Limbo
Savannah Guthrie, who has been off-air since the incident, continues to lead a massive public advocacy campaign alongside her siblings. The family recently increased the reward for information to $1 million, bringing the total combined bounty—including law enforcement contributions—to $1.2 million.
“We still believe in a miracle,” Savannah Guthrie said in a recent social media appeal. “But we also know she may have already gone home to the Lord.”
