Joseph Duggar, known for his appearances on the TLC franchise 19 Kids and Counting, is facing extradition to Florida after allegedly confessing to the molestation of a 9-year-old girl. According to an affidavit filed by the Bay County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO), the 31-year-old admitted to the acts during a monitored phone call with the victim’s father and a Tontitown Police detective.

Duggar is currently held at the Washington County Detention Center in Arkansas. Florida officials are preparing to charge him with lewd and lascivious molestation of a victim under 12 by an offender over 18.

The Investigation and Confession

The investigation centers on events that allegedly occurred during a 2020 family vacation in Panama City Beach. According to Criminal Investigator Chase Norris, the victim—now 14—detailed the abuse during a forensic interview. She alleged that Duggar repeatedly touched her inappropriately under a blanket, “inching higher” toward her waistline until his hand “grazed” her genitals.

The affidavit states that during the March 17 recorded call, Duggar “admitted his actions,” specifically stating he touched the minor over her clothing and that “his intentions were not pure.”

The charges against Joseph mark the second time a son of Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar has faced criminal proceedings. His older brother, Josh Duggar, is currently serving a 12-year federal sentence in Texas for receiving and possessing child abuse material.

The legal crisis for Joseph extends beyond the Florida allegations. On Friday, March 20, authorities announced that both Joseph and his wife, Kendra Duggar, face state charges in Arkansas, including:

  • Four counts of endangering the welfare of a minor
  • Four counts of false imprisonment

Joseph and Kendra, who married in 2017 and have four children, have been central figures in the Counting On series. The BCSO is moving forward with extradition proceedings to ensure Duggar stands trial in Florida.

Representatives for the Duggar family have not responded to requests for comment regarding the current charges or the reported confession.
