Handcuffed Woman Wiggles Out of Police Custody Through Open Car Window with Clueless Cops Just Feet Away

A multi-day manhunt concluded Tuesday morning after a woman who escaped a Muskegon Heights Police Department patrol vehicle through a rear window was apprehended. The suspect, whose identity remains withheld by authorities, is currently held at the Muskegon County Jail on multiple charges.

The incident began Saturday, March 28, at approximately 3:30 p.m. local time. According to Muskegon Heights Police Chief Maurice Sain, a patrol officer encountered a suspicious vehicle parked at an abandoned business.

During the investigation, officers utilized a fingerprint scanner to identify the female passenger, revealing an active parole violation warrant. Authorities handcuffed the woman and secured her in the rear of a patrol unit.

While officers conducted a search of the suspect’s vehicle, the woman managed to maneuver her body through a partially open rear window. Footage captured by Robert Williams, operator of The Block Paper Weekly, shows the handcuffed suspect extending her legs through the gap and dropping to the pavement before fleeing on foot.

“They didn’t see this,” Williams noted during the live recording as the suspect escaped while officers were distracted nearby.

Despite an immediate search of the perimeter, the suspect successfully evaded initial capture. Police now believe the woman was responsible for a residential breaking and entering reported at 4:20 p.m. that same Saturday, less than an hour after her escape.

Chief Sain confirmed that investigators linked the two incidents based on suspect descriptions and proximity.

The three-day search ended at approximately 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 31. Acting on leads, officers located the woman inside an abandoned residence. She was taken into custody without further incident.

The Muskegon Heights Police Department has not yet specified the full list of new charges, though they are expected to include escape from lawful custody and breaking and entering, in addition to the original parole violation.

The department is reportedly reviewing its prisoner transport protocols following the breach. The incident highlights ongoing challenges for local law enforcement regarding suspect containment during field investigations.
