Republicans may have been celebrating the passage of President Donald Trump’s massive “Big, Beautiful Bill” on Thursday — but not everyone’s convinced it’s a win for the party.
Fox News host Jessica Tarlov issued a stark warning to Republican lawmakers, especially moderates, cautioning that the deeply unpopular legislation could trigger a voter backlash in the 2026 midterms.
“Some Republicans just voted themselves into early retirement,” Tarlov posted bluntly on X, referencing the bill’s polling freefall.
The sweeping legislation, which includes steep Medicaid cuts, tax breaks for the wealthy, and adds trillions to the national debt, has been met with overwhelming disapproval across party lines.
According to CNN’s polling analyst Harry Enten, the bill is underwater by 19 to 29 percentage points across five recent national polls.
“The American public at this particular point hate, hate, hate the ‘Big, Beautiful Bill,’” Enten said. “As far as they’re concerned, it’s not big and beautiful — it’s big and bad.”
💥 Democrats See Opportunity
Democrats wasted no time framing the vote as a liability for the GOP.
“There are House Republicans now who are signing their political obituary with this vote,” said Rep. Brendan Boyle (D-Pa.) before the final tally. “They are literally walking the plank for Donald Trump.”
🗳️ Trouble Ahead in 2026?
Historically, the president’s party tends to lose ground in midterm elections — and political analysts say Trump’s GOP may be no exception.
Former MSNBC host Chris Matthews predicted Democrats could flip 15 to 20 House seats, enough to retake control of the chamber.
If public opinion doesn’t shift, Republican lawmakers who backed the bill could soon find themselves facing tough questions — or primary challengers — from within their own districts.
