Tech mogul Elon Musk took a pointed jab at President Donald Trump early Monday, criticizing his administration for failing to deliver on its promise to prosecute anyone connected to the Jeffrey Epstein case.
In a post on X, Musk shared a meme labeled “The Official Jeffrey Epstein Pedophile Arrest Counter,” frozen at “0000,” with the caption:
“What’s the time? Oh look, it’s no-one-has-been-arrested-o’clock again …”
The dig followed another post from Musk in which he replied, “This is the final straw,” to a message slamming Trump for walking back a pledge to release the so-called “Epstein list.” The administration had previously signaled transparency on the case but later reportedly denied the list’s existence.
Musk’s criticism came shortly after Axios published details of a memo from the Justice Department and FBI, which concluded there is no evidence that Epstein blackmailed elites or maintained a client list — claims that have fueled years of speculation and conspiracy theories. The memo also reaffirmed the medical examiner’s ruling that Epstein died by suicide in jail in 2019 and indicated that no further charges would be brought in the case.
The Hill has reached out to the DOJ for comment.
Musk and Trump, once aligned, have grown increasingly combative. Last month, Musk accused Trump of being implicated in the Epstein files, posting:
“[Trump] is in the Epstein files. That is the real reason they have not been made public.”
He urged followers to “mark this post for the future. The truth will come out.”
Trump, who once claimed he’d have “no problem” releasing Epstein-related documents, has denied any links to the disgraced financier, writing last year:
“I was never on Epstein’s Plane, or at his ‘stupid’ Island.” He also pivoted in the same post to warn about the dangers of artificial intelligence: “Strong Laws ought to be developed against A.I. It will be a big and very dangerous problem in the future!”
Their feud reignited just minutes after Trump reportedly threatened to cancel government contracts involving Musk’s companies, despite Tesla and SpaceX playing key roles in the administration’s infrastructure and defense goals.
Adding fuel to the fire, Trump blasted Musk over the weekend for flirting with the idea of launching a third political party, writing:
“Elon Musk has gone completely off the rails — essentially becoming a TRAIN WRECK over the past five weeks.”
He continued:
“Third Parties only cause complete and total disruption and chaos… and we already have enough of that from the Radical Left Democrats.”
The White House has not yet commented on Musk’s remarks.
