After capturing his first Wimbledon title on Sunday, World No. 1 Jannik Sinner made a sweet gesture toward the British Royal Family. Following his four-set victory over Carlos Alcaraz (4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4), the 23-year-old Italian star met with Prince William, Princess Kate, and their children—Princess Charlotte, 11, and Prince George, 10—offering signed tennis balls as keepsakes for the young Royals.
Sinner, who now holds four Grand Slam titles—including two Australian Open wins and one U.S. Open crown—shared details of his royal encounter during a post-match press conference.
“In the beginning, I didn’t really know what to say. It’s a little intimidating,” he admitted with a smile. “But I kept it natural. I asked them if they play tennis and what kind of rackets they use.”
The reigning Wimbledon champion described the meeting as “amazing” and said it was an honor to share the moment with the Royal Family. “It’s really special to have them watching us,” Sinner said. “You can tell how much they care about tennis. That makes the experience even more meaningful.”
He added, “I’ve been lucky to meet them—it was a really nice moment.”
An Emotional Victory After Setbacks
Sinner’s Wimbledon triumph comes months after winning the Australian Open in January, but the road to success hasn’t been smooth. He missed the French Open earlier this year after serving a three-month suspension due to a failed drug test.
“Even if I don’t cry, this moment is emotional,” Sinner said. “Only the people close to me know what we’ve been through—on and off the court. That’s why this win means so much.”
