Convicted Felon Posing as Police Officer Arrested in Hemet After Traffic Stop

A man with a felony record was arrested in Hemet on Monday, July 21, 2025, after officers pulled him over for impersonating a police officer and committing several traffic violations while riding a motorcycle equipped with flashing emergency lights, according to a statement from the Hemet Police Department.

During the stop, officers noticed the motorcyclist was wearing a uniform that closely resembled those worn by local law enforcement. He was also carrying a duty belt with what appeared to be a Glock-style handgun. For safety, officers detained and disarmed the individual on the scene.

Further investigation revealed the man was carrying two functioning Tasers, an ASP baton, and a canister of OC (pepper) spray. Police later confirmed the man is a convicted felon and is legally barred from possessing weapons or firearms. Additionally, he is not licensed by California’s Bureau of Security and Investigative Services (BSIS) to perform any type of security work.

The suspect now faces multiple felony charges under the California Penal Code, including:

  • Section 22610(a) PC: Prohibits felons from owning or possessing stun guns or Tasers.
  • Section 22210 PC: Makes it illegal to possess certain dangerous weapons such as batons, which includes the ASP baton seized.
  • Section 22810(a) PC: Bars felons from possessing tear gas or similar weapons like OC spray.
  • Section 538d(a) PC: Prohibits impersonation of a peace officer through the use of law enforcement-style clothing, badges, or insignia with intent to deceive.

Hemet Police emphasized the seriousness of impersonating law enforcement and reaffirmed their dedication to protecting public safety and maintaining trust.
