A heartbreaking tragedy unfolded in Alabama when 7-year-old Noah Burnett died following a vicious dog attack, despite his grandmother’s desperate attempt to intervene.
The incident took place on Tuesday evening, July 22, near County Road 147 outside Calera, according to the Chilton County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO). Deputies responded around 6:10 p.m. and found that Noah had sustained severe injuries from an attack by multiple aggressive dogs.
The child’s grandmother was also bitten several times as she tried to save him. She was hospitalized for her injuries and is expected to recover.

Noah was rushed for emergency medical treatment but later succumbed to his injuries, the sheriff’s office confirmed.
“Our hearts are broken for the child and the family affected by this unimaginable loss,” said Sheriff John Shearon. “We are fully committed to a thorough investigation to understand how this tragedy occurred and to help prevent it from ever happening again.”
Initially, police were unsure if the dogs involved were strays or belonged to someone. However, they later identified nine dogs connected to the attack—all of which were owned by a local resident. The dogs had been kept on private property prior to the incident and were not roaming freely as strays, officials said.
The owner voluntarily surrendered the animals to Chilton County Animal Control, and all nine dogs were humanely euthanized per safety protocol. The dogs included various breeds and mixes: shepherds, pit bull-terriers, lab mixes, a hound mix, and a pit bull-terrier-akita mix, ranging in age from 6 months to 3 years old. They were also sent for testing as part of the ongoing investigation.
A GoFundMe campaign set up to assist with funeral expenses described Noah as a joyful, energetic boy who loved the outdoors.
“He had the biggest heart and the most outgoing personality,” the campaign reads. “He was the life of the party, always outside, always covered in dirt. To know Noah was to love him.”
No charges have been announced as the investigation continues.
