The son of Isak Andic, founder of global fashion brand Mango, is reportedly under investigation in connection with his father’s death late last year.
Isak, 71, died unexpectedly on Dec. 14, 2024, following what was described at the time as an accident, according to a statement from Mango CEO Toni Ruiz.
He had been hiking with his eldest son, Jonathan Andic Raig, 44, in the Montserrat mountains near Barcelona when he fell more than 320 feet to his death, The Times reported.
The two were walking along Les Feixades, a popular hiking route frequently used by families, when the tragedy occurred, per the outlet. Jonathan, who was walking slightly ahead, reportedly heard stones tumbling and turned around to see his father fall from an unfenced cliffside section of the trail. The route stretches about three miles, linking the Salnitre caves in Collbato with the Montserrat monastery.

Authorities initially classified the death as an accident. However, according to El Periódico and The Times, inconsistencies in Jonathan’s statements have led investigators to reopen the case.
Spanish newspaper El País reported that the investigation has now shifted from a mountain accident to a possible homicide inquiry, and Jonathan’s role has changed from witness to suspect.
The Mossos d’Esquadra (Catalonia police) are reportedly reviewing additional evidence, including data from Jonathan’s cellphone. Police sources told El Periódico that while the inquiry continues, their primary working theory remains that the death was accidental, as no concrete evidence suggests otherwise.
Family representatives have continued to defend Jonathan’s innocence. In a statement shared with Reuters, they said:
“The Andic family has not commented, and will not comment, on Isak Andic’s death. It wishes to show respect for the ongoing proceedings and will continue cooperating fully with the authorities. The family is confident that this process will end soon and that Jonathan Andic’s innocence will be proven.”
Jonathan is listed as Vice-Chairman of the Board on the Mango Fashion Group website. A spokesperson for the company did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Ruiz’s earlier statement on behalf of Mango did not include details of how Isak died but paid tribute to his legacy:
“It is with deep regret that we announce the unexpected death of Isak Andic, our non-executive chairman and founder of Mango, in an accident that occurred this Saturday,” Ruiz wrote.
“Isak has been an example for all of us. He dedicated his life to Mango, leaving an indelible mark through his strategic vision, inspiring leadership, and unwavering commitment to the values he instilled in our company. His legacy reflects the achievements of a business project marked by success, and also by his human quality and the care he always showed to everyone in the organization.”
He added that Andic’s passing “leaves a huge void,” and vowed that the company would continue to honor his vision.
At the time of his death, Forbes estimated Andic’s net worth at around $4.5 billion. He opened his first Mango store in Barcelona in 1984, and the brand has since expanded into a global retail powerhouse.

“Worldwide, Mango has more than 2,900 stores and maintains a positive growth trajectory,” a recent press release stated. “In the first half of 2025, the company recorded a 12% increase in sales and opened 78 new stores.”
