A bride’s post on Reddit has sparked strong reactions after she revealed a text from her mom shaming her for having ice cream in the freezer.

In the post on Reddit’s “Wedding” forum, she shared a screenshot of the message, which read: “I see you have lots of ice cream in fridge… You may want a cheap scale.” Many commenters took this as an attempt to push her to lose weight before her big day.

The bride captioned the post, “Reality of having an almond mom,” referring to a parent who is excessively focused on dieting, body image and “healthy eating,” often placing that pressure on their children.

She explained that nothing in the conversation had prompted the remark. She had simply mentioned she was excited about walking through her wedding venue with the owner and her planner, and finally getting her first fitting for her dress.

She also emphasized that she is not worried about her weight: “I honestly feel bad for her that she thinks this way. I’ll continue to eat all the ice cream I want🥰 + not like it matters but I’m 5’3″ and 112 pounds. I literally have no weight to lose🫠.”

Reddit users were quick to defend her. Many described the mother’s behavior as “toxic” and suggested that the bride establish boundaries.

“Keeping her at arm’s length/low contact would be good,” one commenter wrote. “Narcissistic parents act like this. She’s a crab in a bucket clawing at a way to drag you down on your wedding day.”

Another person added, “As a mom of young adults I’m APPALLED,” calling out the “insensitivity and cruelty.” Others reassured the bride to enjoy her celebration and her ice cream without guilt.

Several commenters also shared similar struggles with “almond moms,” noting that such parents often project their own insecurities and create negative food and body relationships for their children.
