“A Massive Security Gap”: Crockett Campaign Contractor Exposed as Fake Cop with Stolen Military Plates Before Fatal Parking Garage Shootout

A fugitive who provided private security services for U.S. Representative Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) was shot and killed by Dallas Police SWAT officers this week, sparking an investigation into how a man with an extensive criminal history and a penchant for impersonating law enforcement secured a high-level role for a member of Congress.

The suspect, known by the alias Mike King, died following a high-stakes standoff in a Dallas parking garage. The incident has raised immediate concerns regarding the vetting processes used by congressional campaigns for private security contractors.

The Standoff and Escalation

According to Dallas law enforcement sources, the confrontation began when officers tracked King—who was wanted on multiple warrants—to a local parking facility.

  • The Barricade: King reportedly barricaded himself inside a vehicle, refusing to surrender to authorities.
  • Tactical Deployment: After a prolonged standoff, SWAT officers deployed tear gas to flush the suspect from the vehicle.
  • The Fatal Encounter: Police reports indicate that once forced out by the chemical agents, King produced a firearm and aimed it at officers. SWAT team members returned fire, killing him at the scene.

The medical examiner has not yet released the suspect’s legal name, as investigators work to untangle a web of stolen identities and fraudulent credentials.

A Double Life: Stolen Plates and Police Impersonation

Investigators reveal that King operated a business titled Off Duty Police Services, an entity that purportedly coordinated “moonlighting” jobs for actual police officers. However, the foundation of the business appears to have been built on a series of criminal deceptions.

Sources close to the investigation state that King frequently drove a replica undercover police vehicle and utilized license plates stolen from vehicles parked outside a military recruiting office. He is alleged to have regularly impersonated a police officer to gain the trust of both clients and the officers he contracted for his firm.

“The primary concern here is how an individual with a documented criminal history managed to oversee security teams at downtown hotels and secure a contract with a sitting member of the U.S. House of Representatives,” noted a law enforcement official familiar with the case.

Connections to Rep. Jasmine Crockett

Financial disclosure documents and photographic evidence confirm a professional relationship between King and Rep. Crockett.

  • Campaign Presence: Images obtained by investigators show King in close proximity to Crockett during several high-profile campaign events.
  • Financial Records: Documents show payments made to “Mike King” for security services as recently as 2025.
  • Scope of Work: Beyond the Congresswoman’s detail, King reportedly managed security teams for various Dallas-area hotels and his local church.

The revelation comes at a turbulent time for Crockett’s office. The Congresswoman recently conceded a Democratic primary race for the U.S. Senate to state Rep. James Talarico. Her campaign has also faced scrutiny following reports of aggressive interactions with the press, including the ejection of an Atlantic reporter and a separate incident involving a CNN journalist.

Investigating the Vetting Failure

The Dallas Police Department and federal authorities are now examining the “security gap” that allowed an armed fugitive to operate within the inner circle of a federal lawmaker.

While members of Congress often hire private security through their campaign funds or MRA (Members’ Representational Allowance), the responsibility for background checks typically falls on the campaign treasury or the hiring firm itself. It remains unclear if King’s company provided falsified background check results or if his aliases were sufficient to bypass standard scrutiny.
