Keanu Reeves’s publicist has dismissed claims that the John Wick star secretly married his girlfriend, Alexandra Grant. Earlier this month, Radar Online reported that the pair had a private wedding in Europe over the summer. On September 22, Reeves’s representative told E! News in a statement, “It is not true. They are not married.”
Shortly after, Grant took to Instagram to clarify things herself. She shared a photo of the couple kissing at an art exhibit, captioning it, “This is a real photo. Not an engagement photo or an AI wedding announcement…simply a kiss! (Albeit maybe the moment right before or after it…given the slightly goofy expressions on our faces!) We’re at Roden Crater, and Keanu and Gard had just finished interviewing James Turrell for Visionaries. I’m sharing it here to say thank you to everyone for the congratulations on our wedding. Except we didn’t get married. Good news is much needed these days, but it’s still fake news, so be careful out there! So, here’s a bit of real happiness!”
Reeves and Grant have shared a private relationship for years, offering only occasional glimpses into their life together. On September 3, Grant posted a rare tribute to celebrate Reeves’s 61st birthday on Instagram, featuring a heart-shaped cake decorated with his name. She wrote, “Thank you to everyone for sending over sweet wishes for Keanu’s birthday yesterday… he was well-celebrated! And to Keanu—who saw this post as a draft!—I am so grateful for your love and partnership. Now back to painting! xo.”
The couple first connected before publishing their 2011 collaborative picture book, Ode to Happiness, which Reeves wrote and Grant illustrated. They collaborated again on Shadows in 2016, and the following year, they co-founded the publishing house X Artists’ Books.
Their romance went public in 2019 when they appeared together at the LACMA Art + Film Gala for the first time. Since then, they’ve offered a few intimate glimpses of their life. In March 2023, Reeves told People about sharing “moments of bliss” with Grant: “We were in bed. We were connected. We were smiling and laughing and giggling. Feeling great. It was just really nice to be together.”
Later that year, Grant spoke with People about their partnership and praised Reeves’s creative drive. “He’s such an inspiration to me. He’s so creative, he’s so kind,” she said in September 2023. “He works so hard. To make a film, you require hundreds of people. To be an artist, you don’t. You require one. You require a community to get the work into the world, but not to actually make it. I think part of the inspiration is the differences of scale.”
