Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has long been in the public spotlight — both for his role in American politics and his connection to the iconic Kennedy family. But behind the scenes, he is also a dedicated father to six children: sons Bobby, Conor, Aidan, and Finn, and daughters Kick and Kyra.
Kennedy, the son of Robert F. Kennedy and Ethel Kennedy, has had three significant relationships that shaped his family life. His first marriage, to Emily Ruth Black, began in 1982 while he was in law school. They had two children — Robert Francis “Bobby” Kennedy III and Kathleen “Kick” Kennedy — before divorcing in 1994.
That same year, Kennedy married Mary Richardson. The couple welcomed four children: Conor, Kyra, Finn (short for William Finbar), and Aidan. Their marriage ended in divorce in 2010, and two years later, Richardson died by suicide.
Since 2014, Kennedy has been married to actress Cheryl Hines and is also stepfather to her daughter from a previous relationship.
Kennedy’s children have largely carved out their own paths — from filmmaking and philanthropy to activism and academia — while occasionally appearing alongside their father at public events. Some were present when he launched his 2024 presidential campaign, though Kennedy later exited the race before being nominated by President Donald Trump to lead HHS. He was confirmed by the Senate in February 2025.
Below is a look at Secretary Kennedy’s children and their diverse lives.
