Amy Schumer and her husband, chef Chris Fischer, have separated after more than seven years together.
On Friday, Dec. 12, the 44-year-old comedian shared the news on Instagram with a photo of herself, Fischer, 45, and their son riding the New York City subway. In her characteristically tongue-in-cheek style, she explained that the two have decided to end their marriage after seven years, emphasizing that they still care deeply for one another and will remain focused on co-parenting their son. She also joked that the breakup wasn’t about her recent weight loss or Fischer’s status as an award-winning chef, before stressing that the split is amicable and filled with “love and respect,” adding that they’ll always be family.
A source close to the pair says the separation isn’t hostile or dramatic, describing it instead as a coordinated, mutually agreed-upon decision, with the two working together to finalize remaining details.
Schumer and Fischer married in February 2018, after being romantically linked the year before. They welcomed their son, Gene, in May 2019.
Questions about the couple’s relationship had been circulating online in recent weeks. In mid-November, a source said they were dealing with the kinds of issues many long-term couples face and that both remained committed to making the relationship work at that time.
Around the same period, Schumer addressed the speculation in her own way on social media. Sharing a photo of New York City and praising Hulu’s divorce-lawyer series All’s Fair on her Instagram Stories, she added a note clarifying that she and Fischer were still married then.
In a Dec. 1 Instagram post, where she discussed her ongoing health and weight-loss journey, Schumer told followers that whatever might ultimately happen between her and Fischer would have nothing to do with her weight or his autism diagnosis. She wrote that she was hoping they would “make it through” and called him “the best.”

Earlier, on Nov. 11, Schumer wiped her previous Instagram photos — including images with Fischer — and started fresh with a new post saying she’d left the house, was feeling good and happy, and had deleted her old pictures “for no reason.”
The former couple were last publicly seen together at an industry event in June, when they attended the 2025 Tribeca Film Festival premiere of the documentary Room To Move.
