U.S. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) criticized former President Donald Trump on Saturday for authorizing airstrikes in Iran without Congressional approval, calling the move a clear reason for impeachment.
Speaking out following Trump’s announcement that the U.S. had bombed multiple Iranian sites—including nuclear facilities—Ocasio-Cortez accused the former president of violating the Constitution.
“The President’s disastrous decision to bomb Iran without authorization is a grave violation of the Constitution and Congressional War Powers,” she posted on social media. “He has impulsively risked launching a war that may ensnare us for generations.”
She concluded her statement by saying, “It is absolutely and clearly grounds for impeachment.”
Her comments come as both critics and some GOP lawmakers question the legality of Trump’s military action.
