At least one person has died and several others were injured after a shooting at a country club in New Hampshire.

On Saturday, Sept. 20, officers responded to reports that a man had entered the Sky Meadow Country Club in Nashua and “fired several gunshots,” killing one man and injuring others, according to Attorney General John M. Formella in a New Hampshire Department of Justice (NHDJO) press release.

“The suspected shooter was detained on-scene by Nashua police officers,” the NHDJO confirmed.

At first, the Nashua Police Department said there were two armed suspects who “fled the area” in a post on X. Later, both the attorney’s office and police corrected this, confirming that video footage showed only one suspect.

Attorney General Formella and Nashua Police Chief Kevin Rourke later announced that 23-year-old Hunter Nadeau had been arrested in connection with the shooting.

Nadeau is accused of fatally shooting 59-year-old Robert Steven DeCesare with a handgun, even though the two had “no known connection.” He also “shot and wounded” two other adults.

“Hunter Nadeau has been charged with one count of second-degree murder for knowingly shooting Mr. DeCesare,” the news release said. “Additional charges likely will be brought, including for the additional shooting victims.”

Hunter Nadeau is scheduled to be arraigned at the Ninth Circuit Court in Nashua on Monday, Sept. 22.

The shooting happened next to a restaurant where a wedding party was taking place, with hundreds of people dancing, WDHD 7News reported. Guests heard the gunshots and ran for safety. One witness said they tried to stop the suspect by hitting him over the head with a chair, but he fled.

Another witness who attended the wedding recalled, “The bride just came over to me and gave me three plates, saying, ‘you’re going to give this to me, you’re gonna give us you know to my husband’ … but we never got to that point … because that’s when we heard pop pop pop … a wall away.”

“I ran the opposite direction. To my right was the entrance to the prime restaurant where the shooter was, where I heard the shots, so I didn’t want to go out that direction,” she told WDHD 7News.
