Geoff Fox, a beloved Connecticut meteorologist known for his decades of local television work, has died at age 75 following a battle with pancreatic cancer.

His wife, Helaine, announced his passing on his Facebook page, sharing that he “lost his battle last night and passed away in his sleep.” She thanked viewers and supporters who shared messages with him throughout his illness, adding that he was deeply grateful for his connection with the community. According to her post, Fox requested to be cremated without ceremony, a wish that she intends to honor.

Fox spent more than 30 years on the air beginning in 1984 at WTNH, later working at Fox 61 and making appearances on Good Morning America. After leaving WTNH in 2011, he relocated to California and continued forecasting remotely for a Nebraska station from a home studio he constructed in his garage.

He was first diagnosed with cancer in 2016. In 2017, he shared with WTNH that he underwent invasive surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation during his treatment. “There were times during this when I thought that I was gonna die,” he said then, reflecting on the difficulty of the procedures and the fear he experienced throughout his recovery.

Despite the challenges, he expressed gratitude for what the battle taught him about his life, noting: “Here I was, maybe gonna die — probably gonna die — and all I could think of was, ‘You know? My life is pretty good.’”

In September of this year, Fox revealed that his cancer had returned and that he would remain at home on hospice care to manage pain. He continued updating followers on Facebook, often mixing health news with commentary on weather events from his home studio. In his Oct. 27 post, he wrote that he was “very weak but certainly (mainly) pain free.”

News of his death has prompted an outpouring of condolences from fans and colleagues alike. Before his passing, Fox reflected on the impact he made throughout his career. In a Facebook message, he shared a memory of being recognized by viewers while out at a diner, saying the interactions always meant something to him.

“In essence I was happy to be with you guys at virtually any time or place,” he wrote. “You afforded me an unbelievable life which matched the fantasy I’d invented. I am very grateful.”
