One of the victims of the devastating Texas floods has been identified as Jeff Wilson, a cherished high school teacher with decades of service in the Humble Independent School District.

Wilson, a longtime educator at Kingwood Park High School and Humble High School, tragically lost his life in the catastrophic flooding in Kerrville on Friday, July 4, the district confirmed in a statement shared on X.

“Tonight our #HumbleISDFamily is grieving the devastating loss of @HumbleISD_KPHS teacher Jeff Wilson,” the district wrote. “He was a beloved teacher and co-worker to many and will be deeply missed.”

Wilson had worked in Humble ISD for 30 years, touching the lives of countless students and colleagues with his dedication, kindness, and passion for teaching.

Wife and Son Still Missing

School officials also revealed that Wilson’s wife, Amber, and son, Shiloh, are still missing following the floods. The update came via Wilson’s brother-in-law.

“Please continue to keep their entire family, and ours, in your prayers,” the district urged.

Community Gathers to Remember

On Sunday, July 6, the community came together for a prayer vigil at Town Center in Kingwood to honor Wilson, his family, and others affected by the floods. The district shared a photo from the emotional gathering, calling it an “incredible showing,” captured by School Board member Oscar Silva.

Among those in attendance was Jason Wagner, who was Wilson’s former student and close friend for nearly three decades.

“It’s going to be a very big void,” Wagner said. “He served as the best man at my wedding and was a big part of my family’s life. We were pretty tight for 29 years.”

Former Students Share Heartfelt Tributes

Julian Guerrero, a former student who took Wilson’s advanced auto collision and paint class, also attended the vigil.

“He meant a lot to me, and he’s going to be missed. This just hurts,” he told KHOU.

Another former student told KRIV that Wilson was the reason he pursued a career in painting.

“He’s my number one inspiration for everything. Painting is one of the things I love to do because of him. He’s a great man. He will be very missed.”

One more student added simply:

“He meant a lot to me. This hurts. But I love you, Mr. Wilson.”

Wilson’s death comes amid record-breaking flooding across Central Texas, which has already claimed dozens of lives. As recovery and search efforts continue, the community holds out hope for Amber and Shiloh—and remembers Jeff Wilson as a teacher, mentor, and hero who made a lasting impact.
