House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer announced Sunday that President Joe Biden’s longtime physician, Dr. Kevin O’Connor, is scheduled to appear for a deposition this Wednesday after initially refusing to testify.
Speaking on Fox News’ Sunday Morning Futures, Comer said O’Connor was subpoenaed after declining prior requests to testify as the committee intensifies its investigation into what it alleges is a cover-up of Biden’s mental and physical health issues.
“We have serious questions for Dr. O’Connor about the health reports he issued to the American people,” said Comer, a Kentucky Republican. “I don’t think anyone really believes President Biden was as healthy as those reports claimed.”
Comer accused the physician of repeatedly issuing overly favorable assessments and said the panel would press him on both medical and legal matters. “Dr. O’Connor will have the opportunity to explain how he consistently portrayed Biden’s health in such glowing terms,” he said.
The Oversight Committee is also preparing to question five additional Biden administration officials as part of its expanding inquiry. Comer warned that anyone who refuses to cooperate could face contempt of Congress charges.
“If they don’t show up or answer our questions during depositions and interviews, we will move to hold them in contempt,” Comer said. “The entire Republican conference is united in uncovering the truth.”
He emphasized that a key focus of the investigation is uncovering who in Biden’s inner circle may be overseeing the day-to-day operations of the administration amid concerns about the president’s capacity.
Comer also cited a new investigation led by U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi into the alleged unauthorized use of the presidential autopen—a device that can sign documents on the president’s behalf—as part of the broader inquiry.
“It’s crucial we find out who’s actually calling the shots and who has been involved in what we believe is a massive cover-up of Joe Biden’s mental decline,” Comer said.
