Bill Clinton Responds To Epstein Probe

Bill Clinton has issued a response after Donald Trump said he would ask the Department of Justice (DoJ) to investigate the former president’s links to Jeffrey Epstein.

In a short statement posted on X, Clinton spokesperson Angel Ureña said: “These emails prove Bill Clinton did nothing and knew nothing. The rest is noise meant to distract from election losses, backfiring shutdowns, and who knows what else.”

Why It Matters

The DoJ’s decision to examine Epstein’s connections to prominent political figures, including Clinton, has renewed public scrutiny of high-profile relationships with the late financier.

The investigation, launched at Trump’s urging, is prompting fresh debate over the independence of federal law enforcement, potential political motives behind such probes, and continued calls for transparency around Epstein’s network and justice for his accusers.

Angel Ureña later shared the statement again on X, writing:

What To Know

On Friday, U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi announced that she had instructed United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, Jay Clayton, to investigate Epstein’s ties to Trump’s political opponents, including Clinton.

This move comes after Congress released thousands of pages of Epstein-related documents, amid bipartisan pressure to make even more material public.

Bondi’s announcement followed a Truth Social post in which Trump said he would ask her, the DoJ, and the FBI to review Epstein’s “involvement and relationship” with Clinton, as well as with former Treasury Secretary Larry Summers and LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman.

None of the individuals Trump named have been accused in the complaints brought by Epstein’s victims, and the inquiry has raised questions given the long-standing expectation that the DoJ operates independently of the White House.

Clinton has previously acknowledged flying on Epstein’s private jet several times for work connected to the Clinton Foundation, while consistently denying any wrongdoing.

Epstein, a financier and convicted sex offender, died in 2019 while awaiting trial on federal sex trafficking charges.

Reid Hoffman, reacting to Trump’s comments, wrote on X:

Trump should release all of the Epstein files: every person and every document in the files.

What People Are Saying

“These emails prove Bill Clinton did nothing and knew nothing. The rest is noise meant to distract,” Ureña, Clinton’s deputy chief of staff, said in a statement.

Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump said: “I’m the chief law enforcement officer of the country. I’m allowed to do it.”

On Truth Social, he described the Epstein controversy as “another Russia, Russia, Russia Scam, with all arrows pointing to the Democrats.”

Responding to Trump’s call for him to be investigated, Hoffman expanded on his position on X, writing that Trump should “release all of the Epstein files: every person and every document in the files,” adding that a full release would, in his view, show that any investigation into him is “nothing more than political persecution and slander.” He reiterated that he was never Epstein’s client and said his only interaction related to Epstein involved fundraising for MIT.

He continued that the demand for an investigation into him was “an obvious ploy to avoid releasing the files,” and argued that releasing everything would reveal “the people who had both deep and ongoing relationships with Epstein.”

Bondi, for her part, posted on X that “The Department will pursue this with urgency and integrity to deliver answers to the American people.”

What Happens Next

The Justice Department investigation is expected to examine newly released emails, financial connections, and witness testimony involving Epstein and those in his orbit.

A Republican-led congressional committee is also seeking testimony from Clinton. House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer has issued subpoenas to Bill Clinton, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and eight other individuals as part of the panel’s inquiry, according to the BBC.

Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein’s longtime associate, has signaled she is willing to testify before Congress under certain legal protections. The timing and format of any such appearance have not yet been determined.
