Former President Bill Clinton believes that President Donald Trump is now facing consequences for his behavior in office, particularly his combative and authoritarian approach.

In a recent interview with CBS News Sunday Morning, Clinton criticized Trump’s leadership style, saying, “We’ve never seen anything like this in my lifetime. Someone who says, ‘Whatever I want should be the law of the land. It’s my way or the highway.’ And most Americans don’t agree with that.”

Clinton added, “I like to think he’s paying a price for the name-calling and bullying. I believe it’s made him less popular.”

Trump has frequently clashed with the U.S. judicial system, often referring to judges who block his policies as “radical leftists.” According to recent polling, roughly 6 in 10 Americans feel that Trump has overstepped his authority as president.

Clinton urged Democrats to focus on practical political strategy, such as winning state-level offices and reclaiming the House of Representatives. “Only elections are going to change this,” he said. “Someone needs to stand up and say, ‘What we have in common matters more. We can’t throw away the legacy of this country or destroy the public’s trust.’”

He also expressed confidence in the legal system, despite Trump’s repeated efforts to undermine it. “He’s trying to defy court orders, but I think he’ll struggle to succeed. And if he does manage it, I believe it will hurt him even more with the American public,” Clinton said.

Clinton took issue with Trump reportedly blocking law firms from representing clients in federal buildings if they oppose his positions. “That’s not America. We’ve never done that. The point of a legal system is to make sure both sides are heard,” he emphasized.

On a different note, Clinton also came to President Joe Biden’s defense in light of recent concerns about Biden’s cognitive health raised in Original Sin, a new book by CNN’s Jake Tapper and Axios’ Alex Thompson.

Clinton dismissed the claims. “The book didn’t register with me because I never saw him that way,” he said. “He seemed in good shape the last time we met. I think he did a good job, and we’re facing unprecedented challenges. Some are using this as a way to blame Biden for Trump being reelected.”

Biden, in his own response, downplayed the criticisms of his mental fitness with a touch of humor. Referring to the book’s authors, he quipped, “You can see that I’m mentally incompetent, I can’t walk—and I can still beat the hell out of both of them.”
