A 16-year-old student died following a fall at a well-known private school in Manhattan on Thursday morning.
Police responded to an emergency call at about 9:29 a.m. local time regarding a young male in need of assistance outside a building on the Upper East Side, according to a spokesperson for the New York Police Department (NYPD).
When officers arrived, they found the boy with injuries consistent with falling from an elevated position. He was taken to New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead, the NYPD said.
The investigation remains active, and no arrests have been made. Authorities have not yet released the student’s identity or further information about what led to the fall.

The teenager attended Regis High School, a Catholic all-boys institution on East 84th Street. In a statement, the school described the situation as an “unimaginable tragedy.”
“It is with heavy hearts that we write that one of our students tragically lost his life,” the statement read. “We are deeply saddened by his loss, and we pray that the Lord welcomes him into eternal rest and comforts his family. We recognize their profound loss, and we are doing everything we can to support them during this unimaginable tragedy.”
Counselors and campus ministers are available to assist any student or parent seeking support.
Regis High School is a tuition-free, merit-based school that prioritizes applicants from families needing financial assistance, according to its website.
